FAQs

WHAT IS ART LICENSING?

Art licensing is essentially where you ‘rent’ artwork from an artist or designer. In my case, you may license my design(s) non-exclusively or exclusively (more on these options below).

As a licensee, you pay a fee to the licensor (the artist) to use the artwork in accordance with the terms you’ve agreed on with the licensor.

WHERE CAN I FIND YOUR PORTFOLIO?

You can view my selected portfolio here, or you can request access to my full private portfolio at info@yupcat.com.
You can also browse my spoonflower shop which has some extra designs that can be licensed as well.

WHAT IS A NON-EXCLUSIVE LICENSE?

A non-exclusive license allows you to choose one of my existing designs to be manufactured by your preferred printer and sold as finished goods in a single category. The design may also be licensed non-exclusively to other companies at the same time and will continue to be available for purchase on websites such as Spoonflower, where other people can buy the design printed on fabric, wallpaper, and other products.

WHAT IS AN EXCLUSIVE LICENSE?

The terms of use for an exclusive license are negotiated and agreed upon by all parties before any design work begins. As the designer, I retain the right to use the design for any other purpose not specified in the licensing agreement during the licensing period.

For example, if you have exclusively licensed a design for baby bedding, I may also license the design for a different category, such as wallpaper or women's apparel.

At the end of the term, you will have the first opportunity to renew the design. If you decide not to re-license, the rights to the design will revert back to me.

WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT OF THE DESIGNS?

As the designer, I retain all copyright and ownership of the artwork and all derivative works at all times. Buy-outs can be negotiated at a higher price.

HOW MUCH DOES A LICENSE COST?

Pricing is bespoke. I take many things into consideration when I am pricing for your project (which I have listed on my Licensing Enquiry Form).

If you’d like to submit a licensing enquiry, then I’ll have the details I need to provide you with a quote for your project.

ARE YOUR DESIGNS SEAMLESS REPEATS?

Yes, all my pattern designs repeat seamlessly on all four sides, so they can be printed continuously.

WHAT FORMAT DO YOU PROVIDE YOUR ARTWORK IN?

All pattern designs are provided as high-resolution repeating tiles in .PNG file format. Generally they are 3600x3600 px and 300dpi, sRGB color mode, but this can be changed if required.

CAN YOU PROVIDE LAYERED ARTWORK?

Yes, please let me know if your printer/manufacturer needs the artwork layered.
